While the private bus strike is stranding commuters in Brooklyn and Queens this morning, City Council Speaker Gifford Miller used the opportunity to point out that Mayor Bloomberg of spending subsidies that were originally meant for new bus purchases on subways instead. The Mayor's office said that the federal subsidies could not be used for bus purchases and that the MTA is moving ahead to buy more buses ("It's just not true at all"). Crystal ball time - Gothamist foresees lots of incidents like this to come in 2005, with various opponents of the Mayor taking the time to fire off press releases to point out flaws (perceived and real) in the Mayor's plans.
