Chuck Schumer, New York's senior senator, was in Iowa yesterday for the Jefferson Jackson Dinner, which bills itself as a "special night" for Iowa Democrats to "come together to support our candidates up and down the ticket and set Iowa on the path to be the leader in moving our country forward." And Schumer set the stage for 2016 by endorsing his friend, Hillary Clinton, "2016 is Hillary’s time. And our nation will be all the better for it."

Schumer said, "With a strong platform and with Hillary leading the charge, we will vanquish the Ted Cruz, tea party Republicans in 2016. And create a generation of Democrats who will make sure the middle class gets what it needs, our country advances and the torch held by that beautiful lady in New York’s harbor burns more brightly than ever."

According to the NY Times, "An aide to Mr. Schumer said his endorsement in such a high-profile venue had not come at Mrs. Clinton’s request."

Schumer also addressed how the Tea Party was tapping into America's anger—and how the Democrats need to channel it, "The anger and angst is rooted in one essential vital fact: For the first time in American history — in all of our history — middle-class incomes have declined for over a decade."
