A network of earth-loving organizations (Waterkeeper Alliance, Rainforest Action Network, Sierra Club, and Friends of the Earth) descended upon 270 Park Avenue early this morning with a bevy of costumed demonstrators.
Their "Carnival of Destruction" was aimed at JPMorgan Chase, and conducted in protest of the investment bank’s financing of coal companies. The group tells us: “JPMorgan Chase invests hundreds of millions of dollars in the coal industry every year — bankrolling some of the biggest players in mountaintop removal coal mining. The destruction they finance must be stopped, and people everywhere need to know that clean coal is nothing but a dirty lie.”
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon claims the company is dedicated to the promotion of clean energy — but his critics say they hope today's event will serve as a wake-up call.
