Celtics veteran Kevin Garnett is known as something of a vicious trash talker—and on Monday, he thoroughly enraged Knicks star Carmelo Anthony on and off the court, to the point that Anthony stood outside the Celtics bus waiting for him post-game. What could have set Anthony off so much? According to Black Sports Online, Garnett said to him at one point, “Your...wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios.” And it turns out that Anthony and wife LaLa Vasquez are separated right now.

You can see the highlight of their in-game tussling above. As for what had been said, Anthony would only say: ‘‘There’s certain things that you just don’t say to men, another man,’’ Anthony said. ‘‘I felt like we crossed a line, but like I said, we both had an understanding right now, we handled it the way we handled it. Nobody needs to know what was said behind closed doors, so that situation was handled.’’

Garnett and Anthony had to be separated on court and both were hit with technical fouls during the Celtics 102-96 win at MSG. Immediately after the game, Anthony yelled at Garnett outside the Celtics’ locker room. You can see a TMZ clip of that confrontation below.

"I wanted to talk to KG," Anthony told reporters after practice Tuesday. "I think it was something that we both needed to get off our chests and see what really was the problem. It wasn't no altercations, it was just some words and [a] conversation that we needed to have." He was referring to waiting outside the Celtics bus after things had calmed down a bit, as you can see in the clip below.

A source told the News that Anthony and his wife, a reality TV star, have been living apart for at least two months, and La La rang in the New Year without him in Miami’s South Beach. Another source told the Post Anthony "really, really had a reason” to go after Garnett, adding this odd statement: “KG must’ve never gotten hugged [as a child], but Melo’s OK now.”

It seems unlikely that the NBA would suspend either player at this point, especially after Anthony seemingly cleared the air, but they said they would investigate the fight. In the meantime, let's all remember Carmelo and LaLa's happier times.
