Jason Lasry, 38, of Bed-Stuy was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court Thursday on charges of rape, burglary and sexual abuse after he allegedly entered a 24-year-old woman's home and raped her as she slept, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.
The victim told investigators that she did not know the assailant, and that he entered her apartment without permission on Saturday morning.
She awoke around 10:30 a.m. to find Lasry on top of her, according to the complaint, his penis inside of her and his mouth on her breast. She managed to push him off, and he fled.
The incident took place inside a residential building near the intersection of Halsey Street and Central Avenue on October 14th. A police source told DNAinfo the man entered through an unlocked front door.
Lasry turned himself in to the 77th Precinct in Brooklyn around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the day police released security camera footage of a suspect, according to the NYPD.
"He turned himself in," Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told reporters at a Thursday press conference. "We put out a picture through Crime Stoppers. An individual came in and turned himself in."
"He saw his picture in the paper and he came in with his lawyer. Surrendered," Boyce added. "And we're processing him now for first degree rape and burglary, of course."
Attorney information for Lasry was not immediately available. He is being held on $10,000 bail, according to the Brooklyn DA's Office.
Meanwhile, NBC reports that the victim no longer feels safe in her apartment and is staying with family.
