A pedestrian hit and killed by the driver of a tour bus in Morningside Heights yesterday has been identified as 68-year-old tourist from Spain.
According to NYPD, Wanda Canestri and her sister were attempting to cross Amsterdam Avenue mid-block at West 113th Street just after 3 p.m. yesterday, walking in front of a tour bus that was apparently stopped. But the bus moved forward, striking Canestri and causing her to fall, landing under the vehicle. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver remained at the scene and an investigation is ongoing. The bus is registered with United Coachline, a charter company based out of Staten Island.
Canestri's sister was treated for shock. "It was a terrible sight," witness Tyrone Wilson told NBC New York, adding he'd "never seen anything like that in his life."
