A Brooklyn man loading bags of cement onto a flatbed truck in Queens this morning was fatally struck by a yellow bus driver transporting mentally disabled children. Thackoo “Tony” Hargobin, 52, was killed on Borough Place in Woodside at approximately 8:30 a.m. today. Witnesses tell the Post that he was killed "almost instantly," and the driver claims Hargobin fell into the street. 15 children were on board the bus at the time of the crash.
“He was gone immediately," says the owner of the company where Hargobin was picking up cement. "There were no chest movements. The poor man went to work just to pick up a load, not expecting anything -- and suddenly his life was taken. It’s a terrible shame; he was a nice man. Everybody said he was a nice guy." No charges have been filed against the bus driver, but the NYPD says the accident is still under investigation. (The Daily News has a photo of the crash scene.)
