Police are searching for a man who slashed a woman in the face during a cellphone snatching on a Manhattan-bound A train yesterday. The woman, who has been identified by the NY Post as Brownstoner editor Cate Corcoran, was on a Manhattan-bound A train at the Nostrand Avenue station in Brooklyn at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday when a man snatched her iPhone. During the ensuing struggle, the man punched her repeatedly in the face and slashed the left side of her face "from cheek to lip" with an unknown object.
The man fled the train, while good Samaritans helped Corcoran get help from the station agent, who called 911. She needed 40 stitches to close the wound and is currently in stable condition at Kings County Hospital. Contacted after the incident, she told the Post, "I just worried that I was going to bleed to death — fortunately, that didn’t happen."
Investigators say the suspect is 25 to 30 years old, 5'11" to 6'0", 250 to 300lbs, with a beard. He was last seen wearing a red hooded jacket and black jeans.
