A man who had recently proposed to his girlfriend was stabbed to death yesterday by her jealous ex-boyfriend. Cops say that Ray Kelly (no relation to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly) was enraged that his ex Tracy Edwards, with whom he has a six-year-old child, was planning to move to South Carolina with fiance Robert McCray. "They were planning on getting out of here and starting a new life together...She was beaming. She had a bounce in her step," her friend Dee told the News.
The incident took place at the Summer Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where the 42-year-old Edwards and 52-year-old McCray live. Kelly showed up at Edwards' sixth-floor apartment just after 2 a.m. yesterday morning; he allegedly stabbed McCray twice in the chest, mortally wounding him. "There was a pool of blood near the door," a neighbor said. Edwards, who had an order of protection against Kelly, escaped her rampaging ex by barricading herself in a room; the six-year-old was not in the apartment at the time. Kelly, who had recently been released from prison, was charged with second-degree murder and criminal contempt, and is still at large.
