Police say they've arrested the suspect in an attempted rape in Greenwood Heights that took place on Saturday, in which a man tried to sexually assault a woman in her apartment stairwell.

The NYPD said they arrested Sammy Bensabeur, a 19-year-old resident of Bath Beach, last night. Bensabeur was hit with a litany of charges, including attempted rape, sexual abuse and forcible touching.

According to the statement the victim gave police, Bensabeur followed the woman home from the 25th Street subway station and into her 31st Street apartment. He allegedly attacked her between the first and second floors, and the woman fell to the ground during the struggle. Bensabeur allegedly "left a sample of himself" on the victim before fleeing, according to the cops.

Residents of the building where the attack took place told NBC4 that they've complained to the landlord repeatedly that they front door doesn't lock.
