revwright.jpgFamous gospel singer Rev. Timothy Wright of the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Crown Heights was seriously injured in a car accident on I-80 in Pennsylvania Friday evening. His wife Betty did not survive the crash, after a man driving a Chevy Corsica the wrong way on the interstate struck their car as they were driving home from a conference in Detroit. The Wrights' grandson, 14-year-old D.J. Wright, was also fatally injured in the wreck and passed away in a Pennsylvania hospital. The driver of the Corsica, 44-year-old John Pick of Lewisburg, PA, was killed in the crash.

It's unclear whether Wright is aware that his wife and grandson were killed yet. A friend of the family says the news will be devastating. He told the Daily News, "They were like a match made in heaven. She will be a tremendous loss to the community as well as to Christendom."

Rev. Wright is known as the Godfather of Gospel and was nominated for a Grammy award in 1995. His MySpace page lists a full slate of summer tour dates around the U.S. He has released more than a dozen gospel recordings in his career. Currently, Rev. Wright is in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. The Wrights have five sons and live in Roosevelt, Long Island.
