Earlier this morning, a 13-year-old boy, who was headed to a store after midnight, was shot in the back in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. Ronald Wallace Jr. died on the way to the hospital.

According to police, they responded to a 911 call around 12:42 a.m. to the corner of Tapscott Street and Blake Avenue. There they found Ronald with a gunshot wound. The boy was taken to Brookdale Hospital and police found a gun at the scene.

Ronald's mother, Tiffany Orr, told NBC New York, "My son was a good kid, wasn't involved in gang stuff. That didn't deserve to happen to him, too much violence going on. That was my baby." His younger brother added, "Now I have to follow in his dreams, be what he wanted to be."

Last week, a 15-year-old was arrested for shooting four teens at a Brownsville playground. Brownsville has been compared, in terms of violence, to Libya, Afghanistan and Iran, after a young woman was killed last year when trying to shield children from gunfire.
