A woman riding an uptown 4 train had her legs spray-painted by a fellow straphanger and was harassed by another passenger who made anti-Dominican remarks, police said.

An NYPD spokesperson told Gothamist that the woman, who boarded the train at Bowling Green, was saying goodbye to someone at the 86th Street stop when a man suddenly started spray-painting her legs.

The 45-year-old woman told CBS New York that she felt someone spraying a "freezing cold" substance on her legs. "They just came so fast," she said. And while the suspect was allegedly spraying her, another passenger—a woman who appeared to be in her 20s—was egging him on and saying "I hate Dominican bitches, I hope they die." The Daily News reports that she also told the suspect, a man in his 30s, "Keep spraying her. Don't stop. I fucking hate Dominicans."

Other passengers tried to take pictures, but the woman told CBS that they were probably nervous. "They're scared, they don't want to risk their life," she said. After the alleged attack, she was left with a rash on her leg, dizziness, vomiting, and a headache and hasn't been able to sleep, fearing that she could be attacked again.

The woman got off at the 161st Street stop and reported the incident to police. Police said the victim was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, and the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

"For me it's incredible. It's like we're going back to the past," the victim said.
