The 15-year-old Bronx girl who was found dead in the hallway of her relatives' building on Friday had been drinking before she was murdered. Her stepmother's brother was arrested for giving her alcohol, but he was not charged for her death—yet.

The ninth-grader's body was found in the vestibule of 640 Barretto Street in Hunts Point, Bronx, around 8 a.m. on Friday. Her body was badly bruised and relatives tried to administer CPR. Yesterday, the Medical Examiner's Office said that Destiny had been strangled and her death would be classified as a homicide. Neighbors had said they heard screaming and bleach was apparently found on and/or near her body, perhaps in an attempt to conceal a crime.

Luis Vega, 34, was charged with endangering the welfare of the child—Vega allegedly was drinking with his stepniece before her death. He was hospitalized for a preexisting medical condition yesterday.

The Post reports, "He is a suspect in her murder, and charges against him were likely to be upgraded now that her death was ruled a homicide, police sources said. Sanchez would have celebrated her sixteenth birthday on Nov. 30. She was a freshman at a high school in Wakefield."

One of Destiny's cousins said, "Why would they do this senseless crime to a 15-year-old?"
