A Mini Cooper traveling south on the Bronx River Parkway, south of the Cross Bronx Expressway, crashed, killing two people and critically injuring another. Speed may have been a factor.

The crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. WCBS 2 reports, "A car carrying three people hit a barrier on the shoulder and went airborne, police said. The car then slammed into a tree, split in two and caught fire."

According to WABC 7, "The rear passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The front two passengers were ejected and taken to Jacobi Hospital with severe injuries. One later died."

Police are investigating the incident. The crash caused miles of delays for the morning commute.
