A man from The Bronx is in critical condition after another man allegedly assaulted him with a hammer last night, according to authorities.

The NYPD says the unidentified 41-year-old victim told his wife he was leaving their Schuylerville home to meet a friend at around midnight last night. When he returned at 3:30 a.m., he had suffered a number of lacerations, bruises and bumps to his head, according to authorities. Cops say the victim then told his wife, "I love you," and lost consciousness; he was transported to Jacobi Hospital and listed in critical condition.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Michael Dilello; they say he assaulted the victim with a hammer, though they have not yet found a motive for the attack. Dilello is described as a 6-foot-tall white male who weights 200 pounds.

Anyone with information in regards to this assault, or the whereabouts of Michael Dilello, is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
