We know it's been a couple of weeks since we posted a photo of a cop parking in a bike lane, and we appreciate all your e-mails demanding fresh meat. So here you go: This shot was snapped in front of the East Bay Diner on First Avenue in Kips Bay. Our tipster tells us, "I would say 3 out of the 5 days a week I bike to work, the cops are parked in the bike path in front of the East Bay Diner." Upon receiving this hot scoop, we immediately put in a call to the diner, where manager George Agnew took a moment from the busy lunch rush to answer our questions.
Agnew confirms that some of his regular customers are cops, but he doesn't think they park in the bike lane regularly. "You can't stop anywhere around here," Agnew says. Of course, this photo seems to tell a different story, but we'll give the NYPD the benefit of the doubt and assume this was just an isolated incident, or the result of some dire breakfast-related emergency. At press time, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly had declined to comment, but we'll update this developing story as events unfold—our source tell us, "I'll continue to keep my camera handy and snap more pics."
