A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital after falling three stories from an 18th floor window onto a terrace below yesterday. There are conflicting reports as to how Ebrahim Aburawi, the son of a Libyan diplomat, managed to fall from the window. The Daily News says he broke free of his mother's grasp as she attempted to strap him into a stroller, and "dove out an open window into a free fall." According to the Post, his mother was in the bathroom at the time, and emerged to find her son had fallen.

The boy landed on a neighbor's terrace 30 feet below, and was recovered by an assistant superintendent. Witnesses say the boy was resilient, and seemed unharmed. One resident told the Post, "There were no signs of injuries. No cuts, he wasn't even crying. He was just standing there." Another said, "Wow, kids really are like rubber. We're blessed something worse didn't happen." Though he appeared unharmed, he was rushed to the hospital and is now listed in critical condition.

This is the third incident of a child falling from a balcony or window this month. Two weeks ago a 4-year-old boy fell to his death from a balcony in Co-op City, and days after a 3-year-old boy fell three stories from his parent's bedroom window in Schuylerville.
