Investigators believe that a decomposed body found on the rooftop of a building in Coney Island yesterday belongs to a 73-year-old woman who has been missing for exactly one month.
Crucita Alvarado, 73, was last seen on the afternoon of August 12th on the sidewalk outside her apartment building on West 31st Street and Mermaid Avenue, according to the NYPD. Family members said the elderly grandmother suffered from diabetes, dementia and Alzheimers, and started a Facebook group in hopes of finding her. "At this point, I don’t even know if she even is aware of where she is; who she is,” her daughter Ingrid Alvarado told CBS 2 last month. “There’s a possibility she doesn’t.”
On Thursday morning, a badly decomposed body was found atop a roof on 30th Street, right behind Alvarado's building. Cops were trying to determine whether or not the body belongs to Alvarado. The Post reports the body may have been on the roof for nearly a month. "It’s been hell, day in and day out, nights and weekends,” her son-in-law, Pedro Delvalle, told the tabloid.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and identify the body.
