Two months after a man's body was removed from the Gowanus Canal, police are now saying he was murdered.
On the morning of April 3rd, police responded to a 911 call about a male in the water in the canal near Nevins Street. The person was removed to Pier 5 and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
Now, police are calling his death a homicide. NBC New York reports that he had "duct tape over his mouth."
In December, a woman's body was pulled up from the canal. And back in 2012, Howard Frank, a "beggar with a million-dollar collection of celebrity photographs" was found dead in the Gowanus. Frank's brother said he feared for his life and his photo collection was, as of last year, still in a self-storage unit in Coney Island.
