After nearly six months in a coma, Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of pop star Whitney Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown, passed away yesterday. She was 22. Her family said in a statement, "Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months."
Brown had been in hospice care in the Atlanta area since last month. According to Entertainment Tonight, a funeral service will be in Atlanta and then Brown will be buried in NJ, next to her mother.
On January 31, Brown was found face-down in a bathtub in her suburban Atlanta home. Also present in the home was friend Max Lomas and her boyfriend, Nick Gordon. Brown's legal representative filed a lawsuit against Gordon on Brown's behalf last week, alleging that he "caused, among other things, substantial bodily harm" to her. The Atlanta Journal Constitution cited the court papers:
“Defendant has held himself out as having several different relationships with Brown at various times. Prior to 2012, Defendant held himself out to be Brown’s surrogate ‘brother.’ Then, after 2012, when Brown inherited a substantial sum, Defendant assumed the position of Brown’s boyfriend. On or around Jan. 9, 2014 Defendant perpetuated the fraud that he had married Brown, though in fact he never did so.
“The misrepresentation that Defendant was Brown’s ‘husband’ was used to control Brown and limit with whom she could interact. For example, Defendant often answered Brown’s personal cell phone, would not allow her to make appointments without his approval, and manipulated her bank relationship so that he could access her money. This was all part of a scheme to benefit from her wealth.
“In fact, Defendant acted on this scheme by routinely transferring a large portion of Brown’s funds into an account controlled solely by him, without the consent or authorization of Brown.
“Defendant then began questioning Brown’s access to trust assets and threatening one of the trustees with guns and other violent weapons. On April 14, 2014, this Court issued a restraining and/or protective order against Defendant.”
“Defendant also began to commit domestic violence on Brown, including punching her in the face, knocking out a front tooth and dragging her upstairs by her hair.
“Just prior to Jan. 31, Brown had confided to someone that Defendant was not the man she thought he was and set up a time on Jan. 31 to meet with this person to further discuss this revelation. Brown, however, never made it to the meeting. Instead, on the morning of Jan. 31, Brown became embroiled in a loud argument with Defendant at her townhome. The loud argument ended and Brown was later found unresponsive and unconscious, face down in a bathtub, with her mouth swollen and another tooth knocked out.”
TMZ had reported earlier, "Max [Lomas] claims Nick allegedly cleaned up the home and removed blood stains."
An autopsy is planned, but the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said that given that so much time has passed between the January 31 incident and Brown's death, "interpretation of autopsy findings and other information will also be challenging. However, an autopsy could be helpful to address questions which may arise about the cause of her unresponsiveness and eventual death."
A friend of Bobby Brown's told People, He is holding it together more than you'd expect. He knew it was coming. Of course he's very emotional, but at the same time, he knows that Krissy is in a better place now. He is taking comfort in the fact that she's with her mother, and that there will be no more sadness or pain. She is at peace. He knows that, and is taking comfort in that."
