Well, it looks like the Board of Ed has taken all the fun out of school with the draft of the new discipline code. The Board of Ed is looking to banning several things in school including drugs, alcohol, or sexual conduct. Really, what's the point of an education anymore? Perhaps when they move on to college, city students can get their real learning on.

Proposed changes:

Possessing controlled substances without appropriate authorization, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and/or alcohol
Engaging in sexual conduct on school premises or at school related functions
Laser beam pointers

The draft also includes additions that ban slurs based on gender identity, which is a good idea in Gothamist's book. The list of things previously banned includes smoking, gambling, profane or lewd language, unwanted physical contact, and cheating. Tsk, tsk.

If you wish to protest these new regulations, there is a hearing Monday at the Tweed Courthouse. Read the new "Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures", but we warn you, it's a snoozer (.pdf file).
