A 63-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck by a car near 110 West 145th Street in Manhattan last night. Witnesses said the driver was speeding.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. The Daily News reports that the cyclist "was slammed by [the] driver, catapulting him onto the hood of... a passing Honda Odyssey minivan. The minivan slammed on the brakes but the Nissan sped off." This was according to witnesses and police sources.

The minivan's driver told the Post, "I was driving east on 145th street and saw the bike hit the windshield. It was a loud noise. I stopped, pulled over, and ran back to the guy. There was nothing anyone can do."

Pieces of the bicycle were in the street as police investigated. The victim underwent surgery at Harlem Hospital and is in critical condition.
