An apartment building fire in the Tremont section of the Bronx has left three people dead, including an infant. According to WABC 7, "The victims were pulled from the apartment building on Morris Avenue just after 8 a.m. The fire burned through several floors of the apartment building."

The infant, a girl, was pronounced dead at the scene while, two "adults, a male and female, both 40, were removed from the fifth floor apartment and taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, officials said. They were later pronounced dead at the hospital. They are believed to be the infant’s parents or guardians," Wall Street Journal reports.

Three other people suffered minor injuries. The fire is under investigation; City Room says, "City officials said that the blaze appeared to have the hallmarks of criminality and that investigators were trying to determine whether at least one victim had been stabbed — though officials stressed that injuries to people in fires can often be deceiving in the early moments after such events."
