June 12th. The temperature has not been above normal since June 12th. Today threatens to be the first warmer than average day in more than two weeks. This morning's low was 65 degrees. The mercury at Belvedere Castle will need to climb to the predicted high of 85 in order for us to break the cool weather streak. Believe it or not, there is only a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm this afternoon.
The better chance of a shower or thunderstorm will be tomorrow afternoon as yet another upper level low begins its sweep across the northeast. As that low approaches it will destabilize the atmosphere, setting the stage for potentially strong thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday. Keep your eyes open for more rainbows and mammatus clouds! We still need nearly an inch of rain to break the June record. Highs both days are expected to be within a couple degrees of 80.
More unsettled weather is expected on Thursday and perhaps Friday. All current indications are for a mostly sunny and mild Independence Day. We'll believe it when we see it.
