An anonymous businessman from Hong Kong has donated $1 million to the families of NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who were killed execution-style while sitting in their patrol vehicle last month.

$500K of that donation will be put into an education fund for Ramos's two sons, while the other half will be donated to Liu's father. The families were presented with an oversized check at a press conference yesterday. "In every tragedy, there are individuals who step forward and step up to the plate, and that’s what this story is all about today,” Michael Palladino, the Detectives’ Endowment Association president, said at the conference.

The donor, who donated the funds through the Chinese daily Sing Tao, wishes to remain anonymous. "He’s just a wealthy entrepreneur in Hong Kong,” Robin Mui, Sing Tao's eastern CEO, told the Wall Street Journal. “He doesn’t want his name to be published. As simple as that."

In addition to the hefty donation, NYPD officers are holding a fundraiser for the families at Fast Break Basketball Center in Staten Island, complete with hot dogs, beer and live music.
