Many people talk about how the suburbs are so great, the quality of life is much better than dealing with the hustle and bustle of the city. But there are signs that maybe it's not all that it's cracked up to be. For instance, with this weekend's big rainfall, a man in Huntington was swallowed by his front yard cesspool. And what's worse, when his son and a neighbor tried to get him out, they were swallowed by the cesspool as well! Anthony Palladino had walked outside to get his Sunday paper when his yard decided to eat him; it took neighbors and the local fire department to get them out. So that's one reason why the city is better than the suburbs - no cesspools here, just sinkholes swallowing cars (the way one did in March) and cesspool-like smells.
The AP notes a history of cesspool incidents in Huntington: One man fell 65 feet into one while another man died in his backyard cesspool.
