As a bookend to Thursday morning's troubled LIRR commute, the evening commute has now has what the MTA calls "extensive residual delays in LIRR, Amtrak, and NJ Transit service at Penn Station due to congestion."

The MTA explained, "Amtrak power problems caus[ed] a loss of third rail power to 12tracks at Penn Station and one of Amtrak's four East River Tunnels." The morning's issues were also related to third rail issues in Amtrak's East River Tunnels.

Just think—it's not even the "Summer of Hell" yet!
