A man who witnesses say was intoxicated died early Sunday morning after he fell onto the subway tracks and was hit by a train at an Upper East Side station.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, the unidentified man was seen staggering on the platform at approximately 5:45 a.m. when he fell onto the downtown-bound track of the East 86th Street and Lexington Avenue station. Shortly after falling, the man was struck by a 6 train. Authorities rushed to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead inside the station shortly after 6 a.m.
