It is absolutely never a good idea to drive drunk, but if you do happen to be intoxicated behind the wheel (AGAIN, THAT SHOULD BE NEVER), it's probably best to steer clear of the NYPD's main nerve center. That may not have been the case for one driver, who, like a moth to a flame, crashed into a barrier at One Police Plaza this morning and was arrested on suspicion of a DWI.
The NYPD says that at around 7 a.m. this morning, the unidentified driver piggybacked behind a vehicle going through security checkpoint outside the Lower Manhattan stronghold, subsequently crashing into a barrier. He was transported to New York Presbyterian hospital nearby, and arrested shortly after. (NBC New York has a photo of the vehicle that includes a mysterious patch of what looks like snow, but is probably just rock salt tossed onto oil or... vomit.)
It's unclear why a presumably drunk driver would want to be near NYPD headquarters, but perhaps it's better for all of us that he was caught quickly. We're currently taking bets on whether the motorist is a cop.
