Police say they've nabbed one of two men who carried out a brazen broad daylight jewelry store robbery last week that left the owner in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. Felix Lagoa, allegedly seen here in surveillance footage recovered from Studio Jewelry on Nassau Avenue, was arrested on July 30th in Sunset Park. "He was a bad guy,” 94th Precinct Deputy Inspector Terrance Hurson tells the Brooklyn Paper. "He walked in, pointed the gun, walked to the back of the store, and shot [the jeweler]. We don’t know what instigated the shooting."
According to court records obtained by the Brooklyn Paper, Lagoa is a 51-year-old ex-con who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a murder committed in 1982, but got released early. He was arrested again in 2003 for "possession of drug paraphernalia." Police say they tracked him down after lifting a palm print from a glass jewelry case. So it's good to know some thieves aren't yet aware of our modern world's sophisticated forensic analysis! Investigators also found felt display cushions in the alleged getaway car.
Unfortunately, Lagoa's victim, Richard Sanocki, is not doing as well as hoped. Immediately after the shooting, his son David told the Daily News, "The doctor said he's going to live. He's messed up, but he's going to be okay." But now it's being reported that Sanocki is in a medically induced coma and remains in serious condition. And Lagoa's accomplice remains at large.
