A greenmarket? On the Upper East Side? We know, it sounds unbelievable, but it could happen.

Although there are 54 greenmarkets in 40 locations spread out between the five boroughs serving up to 250,000 customers in peek weeks, would you believe there currently is not a single greenmarket on the Upper East Side?

But don't worry, if a current bid to create a greenmarket on the corner of 86th and Fifth (on the eastern edge of the Park, just north of the Met) goes through, of that might change.

But before you get too excited, remember, this isn't the first time that an attempt has been made to put a greenmarket up there. After a previous market on Lexington Avenue closed there was an attempt to set one up on 86th and East End Avenue. That was rejected by the community due to "concerns about traffic, noise, congestion and sanitation."
