An 8-year-old girl was fatally struck by a driver while attempting to cross an intersection in Flatbush last night, according to police.

Authorities say Jadann Williams was crossing East 22nd Street at Ditmas Avenue at around 5:09 p.m. yesterday when she was struck by a 35-year-old man in a Toyota SUV who was heading southbound on East 22nd Street. Jadann, who lived on the block where she was struck, was taken to Kings County Hospital and pronounced dead.

“People were trying to help the girl but it was so bad,” witness Olmedo de la Nuez told the Post. “They were crying and the little girl wasn’t moving.” Another witness told NBC News that cars commonly speed on 22nd Street, which is a popular block for children. "They all play together. There's so many kids on this block that ride their bike up and down," the witness said.

The driver stayed on the scene, and The Post reports that when cops started questioning the driver, the slain girl's 25-year-old brother attempted to attack him—he was arrested and charged with assault.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The NYPD says the investigation is ongoing.
