A New Jersey woman has been charged with allegedly killing her husband of 54 years—and prosecutors say she kept cooking him meals for two days after his death while his body remained in their home. Fredericka Rosa, 77, has been indicted for first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. But her children say that they understand why it happened, and why she kept cooking for him: Rosa suffers from dementia, and had been abused by Valpa Rosa for years.

"He drove her insane," daughter Rosetta Rosa told NBC Philadelphia. "He drove her to the point where she picked up the gun and shot him." Officials say she used a .357 Magnum revolver to shoot her 79-year-old husband in the head and neck in their Pemberton Township home on July 19th. Family members added that during the two days Rosa was in the house with the body, she kept cooking meals for her husband and then called other family members to ask why he hadn’t returned home for dinner. "I understand why my mama did it," Valpa Rosa Jr. added, saying she had suffered decades of abuse.
