A 71-year-old man is in critical condition after a pickup truck slammed into a minivan and careened into a bus stop in Dyker Heights. According to an NYPD spokeswoman, the minivan was heading south on 13th Avenue at around 11:39 a.m. this morning when it was struck by a 1996 Dodge pickup truck traveling east on Bay Ridge Parkway. The truck continued onto the curb and through the bus stop, striking the man and two others.
Witnesses told CBS that the elderly man couldn't get up from the bus stop bench in time to avoid the out-of-control pickup truck. An FDNY spokeswoman said the man and the other two victims, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to Lutheran Hospital.
Police say that the driver of the truck, a 67-year-old man, has not be charged with any crime, and that the incident is still under investigation.
