A 69-year-old woman was attacked while jogging in Forest Park in Queens on Monday. Cops say she was tasered by a man who then attempted to rape her.
The unidentified jogger was running at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday when authorities say a man began talking to her. He then hit her in the head with a taser, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. Cops say the woman was jogging in a more secluded area of the park near Forest Park Drive and Myrtle Avenue; her attacker fled after the assault, and the woman was treated at Queens Hospital Center.
This is the second attack of its kind in Forest Park this year. In March, a 23-year-old female jogger was shot in the neck with a stun gun near Metropolitan Avenue and the Jackie Robinson Parkway, and her attacker allegedly stole her iPod before attempting to rape her. Both attackers have been described as in their mid-30s; March's attacker was described as 5'9, and cops say Monday's attacker was between 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, wearing a black T-shirt, black jogging pants and dark sneakers.
Police are investigating if there is a link between the two incidents; they stepped up security in the park right after March's attack, and cops say a special two-person unit has been patrolling the park during the day since June. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website.
