A 68-year-old man is in critical condition after being assaulted in the East Village last night. According to the NYPD, the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. at East 6th Street near Avenue D. The victim was walking down 6th Street when an unknown suspect approached and started yelling at him. The suspect grabbed the victim, pushed him against a wall, then threw him on the ground.
The suspect then began punching and kicking the victim in the head while he was on the ground. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is now listed in critical condition. Police don't know what sparked the incident, nor whether the two men knew each other beforehand.
