Police announced that a 39-year-old man was arrested after allegedly rubbing up against a plainclothes transit cop during the evening rush hour last night. Hey, dudes—how about you not grind against ANYONE on the subway?
According to the NYPD, the incident unfolded after 5:50 p.m. when an officer and sergeant from the Transit Manhattan Task Force Anti-Crime Unit were patrolling the 42nd Street-Grand Central subway station's southbound 4, 5 and 6 platform. Both officers, who were in plainclothes, got on a 5 train and noticed a man enter the car. The NYPD says:
As the train traveled towards the 14th Street and Union Square subway station, the male made his way towards one of the officers. The officer, a female, noticed the male on her left side brush up against her left hip and press his groin against her. Reacting quickly, the officer put her arm out to keep the male away.
Once the train arrived at the 14th Street and Union Square station, the officer disembarked and noticed the male to have an erect penis.
The female officer told her team that she had been sexually abused and the train was stopped from leaving the station. The suspect, Javier Monroy of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse.
Most subway perverts and grinders are arrested at Grand Central Terminal, followed by Union Square. Last year, a retired transit detective explained, "Often, [gropers and grinders] are on their way to work." Of course, grinders sometimes claim that they happen to get aroused and happen to ejaculate because the "train be crowded."
If you see or experience gross subway behavior, you can do something about it (but stay safe!). The MTA's website has a place for riders to report subway misconduct and even a place for riders to submit images.
