A 4-year-old got behind the wheel of a van with its engine running in the New Brighton neighborhood of Staten Island on Tuesday afternoon and hit a 2-year-old, according to reports. The Staten Island Advance wrote:

The child reached the driver's seat of the van, which belongs to Busy Kidz Group Family Day Care, and put it into either reverse or neutral gear as a daycare worker was attending to another child in the vehicle at around 5:30 p.m., police said.

The van struck the toddler and rolled into a driveway just across the street from the New Brighton daycare at 124 Winter Avenue, according to police.

Paramedics took the victim to Richmond Medical Center in critical condition, and police have reportedly brought no charges against the daycare worker. Journalists camped outside this morning weren't having much luck.
