A 4-year-old girl was found dead in a Queens homeless shelter yesterday afternoon, according to authorities. Though the medical examiner has not yet determined her cause of death, police are reportedly calling it "suspicious."

The NYPD says that Linayjah Meraldo was declared dead at around 12:50 p.m. yesterday at the Briarwood Family Residence on 134th Street in Jamaica, Queens. Her mother told cops she'd kept the child home from school and put her to bed because she was not feeling well, and returned a few hours later to find she was unconscious and unresponsive.

NBC News reports that Meraldo's mother told the police differing stories, claiming at first that the little got into a physical fight with one of her four siblings, and later saying that the child had fallen. Both the medical examiner's office and the Department of Homeless Services are investigating Linayjah's death.

The little girl's death comes less than a week after 3-year-old Jeida Torres was fatally, brutally beaten at a Brooklyn homeless shelter. Her mother's boyfriend, has been charged in connection with her death.
