Three men have been indicted for conspiring to rape and rob women, specifically "prostituted women of Asian descent," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance announced yesterday.

Fernando Sandel, 27; Isaias Rivera, 31, and Joey Cruz, 26, are accused of sexually assaulting and robbing at least three women they contacted through advertisements for sexual services this summer. On June 28th, 2015, the defendants allegedly sprayed one woman in the face with mace, then sexually assaulted her on the roof of an apartment building in the Bronx; they then robbed her, according to prosecutors.

On August 3rd, 2015, the trio allegedly made arrangements to meet a woman at a hotel room in Midtown, where they also sprayed her in the face with mace, according to the D.A.'s office. Then they allegedly bound her wrists and ankles and repeatedly raped her. On August 4th, prosecutors say they met another woman at an apartment in Gramercy, also spraying her in the face with mace, binding her wrists and ankles and sexually assaulting her. In both incidents, the trio are accused of stealing the victims' purses and cell phones.

“Based on numerous texts and other communications between the defendants pre-dating the first alleged attack, we have good reason to believe that there are likely more victims of this brutal conspiracy," DA Vance said in a statement, noting that all three victims were of Asian descent. "As we see time and time again, predators target those whom they believe will not seek help from law enforcement. To those women, I say we are here to help you and we will help you, regardless of immigration status or what language you speak."
