A 28-year-old woman was fatally shot in the head in her Bronx apartment early this morning, and police believe her killer was an ex-boyfriend and the father of her 6-year-old son.

The NYPD says officers found Shoshane Rattigan shot inside her second-floor apartment at 1570 Bogart Avenue in Morris park at around 3:55 a.m. this morning. Rattigan had a gunshot wound to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rattigan was reportedly at home with her 6-year-old son, ex-boyfriend and 20-year-old nephew at the time. The nephew told police officers that he was in another room with the little boy when he heard a gunshot, and found Rattigan—Rattigan's ex-boyfriend, who is her son's father, was allegedly seen running from their home and fleeing the scene by car.

The little boy did not witness his mother's murder, but he did hear a "pop" and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, according to police.

The suspect, described as a man in his 30s and who drives a grey or silver Honda Odyssey, has not been caught. "I don’t know what to say. My heart pours out for the family,” neighbor Timothy Pryor told CBS 2. “I hope they catch him, I really hope they do.”
