A 25-year-old woman was found dead in Riverside Park early Saturday morning. Police say a dog walker came upon the body of Anne Wiswell under a tree in the park at West 99th Street & Riverside Drive around 6:40 a.m. today. She was declared dead at the scene.
According to the News, beer cans and various pills were found by her body, which was only about a block away from her home on Riverside Drive. Police add that she was fully clothed, and had no visible signs of trauma. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing.
A woman named Anne Wiswell was interviewed by Marketplace in 2011 due to her involvement with the Occupy Wall Street protests. She had been a student at the New School until her parents told her they couldn't afford to pay for her education anymore: "It was this massive realization—'Oh my gosh, I have to support myself. Welcome to the real world,'" she told them at the time. "I need to get involved with government policy so that I can afford to live in this country and in this city."
