A Queens man was killed by a hit-and-run driver shortly before 2 a.m. this morning, at the intersection of 34th Avenue and Junction Boulevard. According to investigators, 25-year-old Manuel Campoverde was "within the eastbound lane of 34 Avenue when a vehicle traveling eastbound struck him." It's unclear if Campoverde was crossing the street or was for some reason walking in traffic. That section of 34th Avenue has a bike lane, but there's no indication from the NYPD that Campoverde was biking.

Campoverde, who lived five blocks away on 100th Street, was pronounced DOA at Elmhurst Hospital. One witness said the vehicle was a small, black 4-door sedan, "operated by a male with a light complexion." The driver fled the scene and remains at large.
