A man and a woman were killed early this morning after a Long Island Rail Road struck them near the Hollis station in Queens. There are currently LIRR delays on the Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma lines.
The train, a 1:46 a.m. Ronkonkoma train due at Penn Station at 3:05 a.m., apparently struck the pair around 3 a.m. as the train was pulling into the Hollis station, according to PIX 11.
The victims were found under the train and pronounced dead at the scene. It's believed they were both in their 20s. Investigators have yet to determine why they were on the tracks, but the Daily News notes that two people in their 20s died at the station in July of 2013 "when they leapt in front of a train after making a Romeo and Juliet-style double-suicide pact."
