A 19-year-old man was shot and killed early this morning in Chelsea, and his killer remains at large. Police found Dante Sanders with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso outside the Chelsea Houses at around 2:07 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. "I heard four shots, then a woman scream, 'Oh, my God, they shot him,' " a resident told DNAinfo. Sanders is the city's ninth homicide since Friday.
Sanders lived around the block at the Elliot Houses. Harlem resident Debo-Rah Gatling said she was like a mother to Sanders after the two met 11 years ago, and described him as "sweet" and "kind hearted." "He said, 'Miss Debo-Rah, can I call you Mom?' He's been calling me mom ever since."
