A teenager from Queens who was critically injured by a driver while attempting to cross Queens Plaza North last week has died, according to police.

Authorities say 18-year-old Kevin Lopez was traveling northbound on 29th Street and attempting to cross Queens Plaza North in Long Island City at around 2:14 p.m. on July 28th when he was rammed by a 35-year-old driver behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz. Lopez was thrown off his bike and hit the driver's windshield, eventually falling onto the roadway—a witness told reporters that he appeared to have a seizure briefly following the crash.

Police say Lopez was cycling in a designated bike lane when he was struck.

Lopez was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center with serious head trauma—he died there on Wednesday.

The driver, who police sources originally said "was expected to be charged with driving under the influence," has not been charged with a crime.
