The Essex County prosecutor's office will hold a press conference today about the Christmas day shooting that left two Newark teens dead and another injured. But media outlets are reporting that a 15-year-old was arrested—and that the violence was over a girl.
Abdul "Scooter" Frazier, 14, and Kasson Morman, 15, were on the front porch of a house on Schley Street, in Newark's South Ward around 10 p.m. on Christmas when the shooting broke out. Kasson, who was visiting, was killed while Abdul, who lived in the building, was shot in the neck. Zainee Hailey, 13, another resident, was fatally shot as she was bringing out the garbage with her seven-year-old brother, who was not injured.
The Star-Ledger reports, "The suspected shooter, identified only as a 15-year-old boy, was apparently angry with either [Kasson or Abdul] after one of the two victims supposedly 'hit on' a girl he was dating, according to the sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case. The teen suspect felt 'disrespected' by one of the male teen victims, the sources said."
Zainee's father hoped the police would find his daughter's killer, saying yesterday, "She was just taking out the trash. And that's what these people are. Trash."
