A 14-year-old Red Hook boy was fatally struck by a motorist this morning as he ran to catch the school bus, according to the FDNY.

Nicholas Soto was killed just before 7 a.m. on Hicks Street by the driver of a grey 2004 BMW, which was traveling west on Lorraine Street at the time of the collision. He was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital.

A source told the Daily News that Soto's sweatshirt hood may have obscured his vision. The 28-year-old driver, who is from New Jersey, remained at the scene and is not expected to be charged. "It appears to be a tragic accident," a source told the tabloid.

Soto's death comes three days after the city council passed a package of bills aimed at drastically reducing—and, eventually, eliminating—traffic deaths as part of Bill de Blasio's Vision Zero plan.
