Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was assaulted in South Williamsburg last night, and the NYPD is investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

According to police, the teenager, an Orthodox Jew, was crossing the street at Lee Ave and Lynch Street at around 8 p.m. last night, when he encountered a man on a bike. Cops say the individual struck the teen in the face and yelled an anti-semitic remark at him—according to JP Updates, he yelled, "Fuck Jews" at the victim.

The victim reportedly chased the suspect for a few blocks before alerting a police officer, and when he asked the cop for assistance, he was reportedly told, "Go home and tell your parents to file a police report."

The victim was treated by Hatzolah at the scene, and the NYPD says its Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the attack as a possible bias assault.

JP Updates reports that this is one of a number of attacks on children in the neighborhood recently, and a source tells us that as many as 20 children have either been attacked or had their bikes stolen over the past two months, but the NYPD has allegedly failed to investigate these allegations as hate crimes. The NYPD has not responded to request for comment regarding additional attacks.
